I listened to your email re: remote controls. There is an alternative to buying a remote control receiver for upper end Nikons.
Breeze Systems sells DSLRemote (free ware and pro version) as a remote system. You load the software on your laptop and iPad, ipod Touch or iPhone and connect your camera via the USB port. The software allows you to use your iPod, etc. as the remote unit via WiFi to control the camera (single shot, intervals, etc.). In normal mode, after you take a picture, it is downloaded to your Apple device. In live view mode on the camera, you can view the camera image before you take the shot. I have a sub-netbook size Fujitsu u830 (fits in the palm of your hand) as my PC, my iPod Touch as the controller/view and a D300. I have used it now for several months and it is far better than a simple remote control (also, the range is up to 300m depending on what is in between you and the PC). I would definitely recommend this system if you happen to have a laptop/netbook and iPod touch, iPhone or iPad.
Perhaps you can add this to your list of recommendations.

Gord.
