Photo Professors Episode 2: The Photo Professors touch on a conference covering the business of photography and then they reinterpret a famous quote from Ansel Adams.
* Learning from the annual Professional Photographers Association convention, ImagingUSA, in New Orleans
* Sharing thoughts with Landscape Photographer Eric Bowles
* Being Inspired by the words of Ansel Adams
Nikon photo enthusiasts looking for a series of free podcasts designed to enhance their image making skills have a new "must listen" resource. The first podcast in the new Nikonians Photo Professors podcast series debuts this week, hosted by Rick Paul and Rick Hulbert.
Their free podcast is ready for direct download and it is also available in the podcast section of the Apple iTunes store (also free).
Nikonians Photo Professors Rick Paul and Rick Hulbert combine 60 years of professional and successful photography experience in the newest podcast series available through nikonians.org starting January 15th.
Rick Paul has supplemented his 25-year career as an Aerospace Engineer by creating and developing a successful wedding photography and portrait photography business in addition to his success as a stock photographer. Rick has honed his instructional skills teaching photography skills to company factory workers.
Rick Hulbert has leveraged his 35-year background in architecture and urban design as a springboard for his current activities as an instructor and lecturer and workshop leader in the areas of architectural, travel, street and urban photography.
The Nikonians Photo Professors credit Jason Odell and Rick Walker, longtime podcast veterans of more than 150 Nikonians Image Doctors episodes for their inaugural work in generating interest in the field of photography-oriented podcasts. While preparing for the debut episode they consulted with Jason Odell and arranged to book him as their first guest.
The professors pay homage to the Nikonians motto: Share, Learn, Inspire by structuring the podcast format to those three elements.
Each monthly episode will share information on new gear, assist in learning with the help of special guests and inspire creative techniques with an emphasis on basics (meaning no need for purchasing new equipment).
The Nikonians Image Doctors, Rick and Jason are as of October 4th no longer running the successful Nikonians Podcast Show, as you can read here. We are looking for candidates for continuing the show and potentially tweaking the format. If you are interested in becoming famous with Nikonians, please contact us at voice at nikonians dot org
After nearly six years and over 150 episodes, we’ve come to the conclusion that it’s time to retire our microphones and bring the curtain down on The Image Doctors podcast. This is not a decision that we made lightly, but it is something that was in our best interests. We would like to thank all of you who have followed us from our humble beginnings in December of 2005 and also those of you who maybe just recently discovered us.
We never expected The Image Doctors to be such a popular production within the photography community. We are especially thankful to all of the great photographers who have joined us over the years to help enlighten our listeners on exciting ways to foster their interest in photography. Even more than that, we are humbled by the sheer number of our listeners who have written us or posted on our Facebook Page to ask questions, suggest topics, or offer their thanks for our tidbits. Without you, we’d never have made it this long. Finally, we’d like to thank Nikonians.org for their steadfast commitment to delivering The Image Doctors podcast free to everyone around the world.
We wish everyone who supported us the very best going forward and good light.
Rick and Jason offer their take on the new Nikon 1 Mirrorless camera system, discuss photographing fall colors, and preview Nik Software's Color Efex Pro 4.0 fiter plug-in.

In this podcast, we talk about our four-day shoot in South Texas, USA. We had a great experiencing shooting from specially-designed photo blinds on private lands as guests of Lens and Land, a consortium of landowners who are opening up their property to photographers in an effort to promote conservation of the Rio Grande Valley region.
Crested caracara at Dos Venadas Ranch, by Jason Odell
We flew to McAllen, Texas for several days of shooting on private ranches as guests of John and Audrey Martin. In an effort to promote conservation, a group called Images for Conservation (ICF) has been formed. Private landowners are encouraged to create photo opportunities on their properties and invite photographers to spend time at their property. The benefits are two-fold: landowners generate a revenue stream by maintaining native habitat, and photographers are rewarded with a shooting experience that just isn't possible in public areas.
In this episode, sponsored by GAF slide film, Rick and Jason discuss two of the newest Nikon products: The F2 and the Nikkormat EL. Is the F2 a worthy successor to the F? Has the Nikkormat EL "lowered the bar" with its automatic exposure mode? Listen to this vintage broadcast originally aired on April 1, 1973 on AM 870 KNKN Radio.
