A bit frivolous, maybe, but I think I'm entitled to put forward a wish list to Nikon, outlining some of the stuff I'd like to see from them in the coming time. As an enthusiastic Nikonian and a somewhat nerdy gear head, I feel it in my right to represent other photo buffs in wanting even more new stuff.
Nikon has shown extremely good shape in the recent time, raising the bar several times and demonstrating a new and refreshing willingness to go different ways. The D3 and D700's superior "low rez" full frame sensor. The D90's video mode. The rumored MX format in a rangefinder camera.
Based on that I'd like Nikon to give me... eh, us (in no particular order):

Otoji - Nikon's bigger brother

OK, I'm at it again. All wound up because of what my favorite rumor smith is currently publishing. As if Nikon hasn't shaken the camera industry enough with the D3/D700 and the (very) video capapble D90 consumer camera.
Nikon has announced that something BIG is on the way and people have been speculating about what that could be. In an ad in the magazine Rangefinder, Nikon let the public know that BIG will happen Monday February the 16th 2009 during the WPPI-conference in Las Vegas. Lots of camera addicts have theorized about a D3x with a 25 megapixels sensor like the one found in Sony's recently announced flagship. This makes good sense, since Sony delivers the sensors for many Nikon DSLR's.

So you want to shoot like McNally? Well, here's step one: gear up. Renowned Nikon shooter Joe McNally's assistant Brad Moore has compiled a list of the gear the the McNally crew uses.
Whoa!
I did a head count of my gear recently to have a list for the insurance in case something happened and was actually pretty satisfied with what I saw. But my list is about one tenth of this one in length and probably about one third in quality. OK they do list each gel color separately. If I did that I could add a few items to my list. But it's still not quite the same. I know when Brad writes D3 it should say D3's (three at least) and when he writes D700 and SB-900 it also most likely to be more than one of each. Products which aren't even in the shops yet.
What can I say? Galloping NAS once again. More like a NAS stampede...

The D700 seems more than likely now, as the German magazine ProfiFoto has it on print (but not online) in its latest edition - alongside with the news of a new flagship flash from Nikon, named the SB-900.
It's the German blog PhotoScala that reports on the D700, and they have almost been run down by the stampeding, newshungry web crowd.
The camera is as expected a full frame (FX) body with an optional vertical grip (uses the same as the D300). It's rated at 5 fps (8 with the grip) and ISO's up to 6400.
This is far from a D3, but certainly a good contender for the role as a competitor for the very popular Canon 5D. With the same high ISO performance as the D3, a price tag in the 2,600 Euros range and facilities in the space somewhere between D300 and D3, Nikon should have a pretty sure succes with this new camera.
A few people are whining about the launch not being a D3x with much higher resolution, but my guess is that they won't have to wait long for Nikon to offer something in this range too.
But for now we're just waiting for Nikon to make this fully official.

...or is it?
The rumor smiths are now totally boiling over with confirmations of the existence of a new full frame Nikon body. Online announcements, price lists, spy pics of catalog prints, even pictures of the camera itself. The number of indications seem almost overwhelming. The specs are very precise and seem legit to such an extent that it really is plausible that Nikon is launching a new D300-like FX-body any day now.
