Fair Winds and Following Seas: George Hall

George Hall, the "guru" of modern jet and tactical aviation photography, passed away 20 April during heart bypass surgery at Marin General County Hospital in San Francisco. He was 65. His achievements, particularly as a pioneer of modern air-to-air photography, are legendary. Many of his works have appeared in over two dozen photo calendars and books such as AirPower, Top Gun, and CV: Carrier Aviation. A former US Army intelligence officer, he became a photographer by accident rather than intent, much to the benefit of the aerial photography community. He was scheduled to receive a lifetime achievment award from the International Society of Aviation Photographers on April 22nd, but the occasion became an impromptou memorial. Examples of his work can be seen at the popular Check-6 web site.
