FTC Fines Kodak for Spamming
Kodak's Photo-sharing service (formerly Ofoto) has settled charges with the US Federal Trade Commission that it sent marketing e-mail to over 2 million customers without an opt-out method. The penalty fined was USD26,331 which reflects the gross proceeds from the campaign. Kodak Spokesperson Liz Scanlon explained, "This incident, which took place over a year and half ago, was a simple technical malfunction that caused the customary text to be removed from the e-mail. We identified the problem, took steps to correct it and are confident it won't happen again."
