Richard Hulbert Grand Prize winner Day Two-- still shooting - still learning
Nikonians co-founder Bo Stahlbrandt (bgs) has been covering workshop activities in Belgium and he reports that day two for Richard Hulbert's (rhulbert) grand prize session was busy.
Richard, from Vancouver, Canada is attending a workshop lead by International award winning photographer Pascal Baetens, which he won in our Nikonians 10th Anniversary Photo Contest from last year.
Bo tells us the lessons for day two included: "Light - working with natural light, how to model with light. Further practicing how to locate yourself on relation to your model and the pros and cons of adding effects in post processing."
Pascal explained that post processing effects can often lead to discussions how the photo was done instead of focusing the audience on the original intent of the photographer.

10th Anniversary Contest winner enjoying his Grand Prize
Richard Hulbert (rhulbert), from Vancouver, Canada is in Leuven, close to Brussels, enjoying his exclusive workshop with an International award winning photographer Pascal Baetens.
He won the grand prize in our Nikonians 10th Anniversary Photo Contest last year.
That's Rick on the right (on the first day), discussing photo techniques with Pascal.
Rick has has been learning the use of perspective and relative perspective in people photography as well as practicing the techniques for establishing distance between photographer and model (and how you can enter into the personal bubble to get more emotional portraits).
Also discussed was placement of the model in best frame composition to allow for strongest communication between subject and viewer.
A small group of four students in the first workshop Rick is taking with Pascal makes learning highly effective. Two models are available to the photographers.
Rick's workshop win included air ticket and hotel accommodations in Belgium plus a Plaber Case HPRC 2780W and Foolography Wireless GPS Bundle.
His winning image titled "3 Nikonian Amigos on the Caribbean Road" was made with a Nikon D3X camera using a 14-24mm f/2.8G AF-S set at 16mm. The aperture was f/5.6, the shutter speed was 1/8000s.
Check our News Blog for Richard's description of the shooting details (including the names of our shadowy Nikonians Amigos).
