At some point in our life, all of us Professional Photographers need to go back to the basic of Photography, sometime we do become too comfortable in our Photography, so we do stop learning .So we need to become uncomfortable and approach the basic of Photography in a different light. Why we should to using prime lens more for better sharpness and composition, instead of just using a Zoom lens for every type of images. Why every photographer from beginners to professional, should be carrying a point-to -shoot Nikon camera with them all the time. Learn to see by listening with your ears and the important of using a tripod.

Nik Software divorces Nikon... right?
Seems the 2006 wedding between the two has been annulated. How much of a happy wedding that was is hard to say, but, we have been waiting for a follow up on the Nikon Capture NX2 a few years now and nothing is on, not even on the most sensitive of rumor radars.
Is the software some minority groups claim we'll still get worth waiting for, risking it will never come?
I would say hardly. Life's moved on and there are great, new tools out there. Take your pick, even if your new one does not come from Nik(on).

So much good stuff to read
Our sponsor Profoto runs their own blog and I really liked what I read. You probably have heard of this vendor before, providing leading light solutions for professionals and ambitious amateurs alike. If you are into understanding more about light and how you can deploy their solutions to get the right light, check their blog.
We have had the luck to use their equipment on various locations, including on the community stand on various Photokina exhibitions.

Meanwhile—On the Road
Our intense workshop schedule for March is just wrapping up and we are looking forward to April with workshops in Denver, Seattle and California's Big Sur.
Our four Denver workshops scheduled for April 4-7 are close to selling out, so don't wait too much longer to sign up for the D700/D3, Lightroom 3/4 and iTTL Wireless Flash workshops led by Winston C. Hall.
Rick Hulbert's four-day Seattle Urban Photography workshop will be a wonderful opportunity to learn the intricacies of photographing urban environments, architecture, and street photography.
This workshop series is designed to improve your photography regardless of whether you consider picture taking a hobby, or you are a serious enthusiast, or a professional photographer, or earn your living as a member of the global real estate, design, and construction industries.
Michael Mariant's trip to California's Big Sur (April 19-22) will take photographers through one of the Pacific Coast's most dramatic areas.
Michael knows the area well and is one of the foremost experts on the landscapes, waterfalls and coastlines in this region.
Reminder: Your Big Sur deadline for signing up is April 4th.
Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons are two of North America's most incredible locations for wildlife photography.
Our wildlife photography instructor, Jim Stamates, knows these two National Parks like the back of his hand and is running two workshops in June.
For participants who book both of these back-to-back, we are offering a $100 rebate.
The Yellowstone dates are June 2-5 and the Grand Teton dates are June 6-9.
Speaking of North American wildlife, check out Jim Stamates' Alaskan Wildlife Photography Adventure from July 22 - 28.

Jim knows how to run a great trip and I know you'll love this experience.
For those on the East Coast of the USA, it is already time to start thinking about Fall colors in Acadia NP.
Les Picker has been photographing the east for decades and is one of the best suited to lead photo workshops to Acadia NP.
Our Acadia NP Photography Adventure will run October 18th - 21st and includes an amazing variety of photographic destinations such as sunrise from Cadillac Mountain, Jordan Pond, Bar Harbor, Ocean Drive, Thunder Hold and Thuya Gardens.

Big Sur is one of California's great shooting locations and Michael Mariant knows this area in and out. Join him for his photo workshop titled Big Sur: From the Coast to the Canyons (April 19-22).
Michael will take you to the right spots at the right time to photograph stunning sunsets, expansive seascapes and intimate waterfalls. You'll love this workshop.
Wildlife bonanza
Jim Stamates is one of the great North American based wildlife photographers and we are honored to have him leading trips for us at the Nikonians Academy. Jim's trips this year include photo adventures to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons as well as a tremendous photo opportunity to capture images of wildlife in Alaska.
Our four-day Yellowstone in Spring trip begins on June 2nd. This trip photographs wildlife in Lamar Valley, South Yellowstone, Old Faithful, Mammoth, Yellowstone Falls, and more.
You will be be searching for bear, elk, wolves, bison, badger, pronghorn, and everything in between. Many photographers will choose to attend the Grand Teton Spring Wildlife Adventure, which follows the next week (June 6). For those that sign up for both the Yellowstone Wildlife Adventure and the Grand Teton wildlife adventure the following week, we are offering a $100 off the grand total special.
Alaska in Summer
Jim's Alaska Whales, Bears, and Ice Fields Wildlife Photography Adventure (July 22-28) will be one of our marquee events in 2012.
Join Jim and Kathy Stamates as they guide our own private boat to find humpback and killer whales, seals and marine mammals. Jim is eager to share his knowledge from 30 years as a professional wildlife photographer and his countless trips to Alaska. He will teach his 3 Keys to Great Photos, and how to get those stunning images of wildlife while using ‘low impact field techniques’.
You will have the opportunity to photograph grizzly bears and eagles while searching for dramatic landscapes, glaciers and everything Alaska has to offer.
Urban settings also provide adventure
For photographers who are looking for a more urban environment, I encourage you to check out Rick Hulbert's four day Urban Photography workshops in Seattle (April 12 - 15) and Toronto (May 3 - 5).
Rick will help attendees fully understand how to photograph the urban-built environment while also showing excellent techniques for using architecture as a backdrop for people and street photography.
Galapagos Update
Two seats just opened up for our Galapagos trip this September.
Our workshop was sold out, but now a couple of people have a great opportunity to join our intrepid adventurers as we explore the wildlife and landscapes of the pristine Galapagos Islands. The trip includes seven nights on a Galapagos cruise and three nights in Quito Ecuador.

New Jersey chosen first venue for newest workshop series
Nikonians Academy Director Mike Hagen has just concluded his sold-out workshop series in Los Angeles, CA hosted at Samy's Camera store and each day ended with rousing applause from the attendees. Next on his agenda is preparing for the new workshops on the calendar, and he tells us the debut location will be in New Jersey.
Here is Mike’s report:
The month of May marks a major change to our workshop schedule as we roll out brand-new workshops all across the board. One of the more exciting new workshops will be our one-day studio lighting class using Profoto gear.
In this class, you will learn the ins and outs of using both continuous lighting (tungsten) as well as studio strobes (flash) to create stunning results.
Our first new workshop series begins in Fairfield, New Jersey in conjunction with Unique Photo's photography superstore. We posted the Fairfield NJ workshops a couple days ago and we are already half sold-out on our more popular classes. Don't delay.
This weekend, Winston Hall is running classes in Dallas, Texas with his next series set for Austin, TX (March 14-18).
His Austin, Texas D7000/D90/D80 class is already sold out, but there are still a few seats available in the D700/D3, iTTL Wireless Flash, and Adobe Lightroom 3/4 workshops.
Winston just shot me a text message and said, "These Texas workshops are going great!"
Steve Simon is returning from his photo workshops with Gulf Photo Plus and will be running Nikonians Academy workshops in Toronto, Ontario (March 15-18) and Montreal, Quebec (March 22-25). In both cities, he's running workshops on D300/D300s, The Passionate Photographer, D700/D3/D3s/D3x, and the Nikon D7000/D90/D80.
His class, The Passionate Photographer, is getting rave reviews all around the world. Check it out.
Have you ever wanted to become a better urban photographer? Rick Hulbert, our own Nikonians Photo Professor podcaster, is running a new workshop titled "Urban Photography, How to photograph built environments for people."
His class is unique from the standpoint that Rick is an award-winning architect as well as a master digital photographer.
He is one of the few people with both a mastery of the architectural urban environment and digital imaging. Join Rick in Seattle (April 12-15) or in Toronto (May 3-6).
The Big Sur is one of Californians most famous coastal destinations with giant Pacific Ocean seascapes to amazing canyons and waterfalls. Join Michael Mariant for one of his signature workshops as you spend four days photographing tide pools, crashing waves, moss-covered rocks, deep canyons and amazing waterfalls. The deadline to sign up for this workshop is April 4th, so don't delay or you might miss your chance!
Check out the rest of our trips to places like Acadia National Park, Yellowstone NP, Grand Teton NP, Eastern Sierra, Alaska Wildlife Adventure, Monument Valley, Galapagos, Africa and Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.
