Nikonians Northern Exposure #1

Welcome to the first show of the new Nikonians Northern Exposure Podcast brought to you by Peter Spence from Canada.

In his first show Peter is talking about improving the sharpness of one Photograph images. This is design for beginners to Professional Photographers.

Download Nikonians Northern Exposure #1 (NPC-NE-2012-04-02.mp3; 28:21; MP3 format)

At some point in our life, all of us Professional Photographers need to go back to the basic of Photography, sometime we do become too comfortable in our Photography, so we do stop learning .So we need to become uncomfortable and approach the basic of Photography in a different light. Why we should to using prime lens more for better sharpness and composition, instead of just using a Zoom lens for every type of images. Why every photographer from beginners to professional, should be carrying a point-to -shoot Nikon camera with them all the time. Learn to see by listening with your ears and the important of using a tripod.

Nik Software divorces Nikon... right?

Seems the 2006 wedding between the two has been annulated. How much of a happy wedding that was is hard to say, but, we have been waiting for a follow up on the Nikon Capture NX2 a few years now and nothing is on, not even on the most sensitive of rumor radars.

Is the software some minority groups claim we'll still get worth waiting for, risking it will never come?

I would say hardly. Life's moved on and there are great, new tools out there. Take your pick, even if your new one does not come from Nik(on).

So much good stuff to read

Our sponsor Profoto runs their own blog and I really liked what I read. You probably have heard of this vendor before, providing leading light solutions for professionals and ambitious amateurs alike. If you are into understanding more about light and how you can deploy their solutions to get the right light, check their blog.

We have had the luck to use their equipment on various locations, including on the community stand on various Photokina exhibitions.

I’ve already had a chance to work with the Nikon D800 and you can have a look at my impressions in my blog.

Meanwhile—On the Road

Reminder: Your Big Sur deadline for signing up is April 4th.

Grand-Teton_150.jpg
Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons are two of North America's most incredible locations for wildlife photography.

Our wildlife photography instructor, Jim Stamates, knows these two National Parks like the back of his hand and is running two workshops in June.

For participants who book both of these back-to-back, we are offering a $100 rebate.

The Yellowstone dates are June 2-5 and the Grand Teton dates are June 6-9.

Alaska_170.jpg
Speaking of North American wildlife, check out Jim Stamates' Alaskan Wildlife Photography Adventure from July 22 - 28.

This trip will be an excellent opportunity to photograph whales, bears, eagles, glaciers and everything else "Alaska".

Jim knows how to run a great trip and I know you'll love this experience.

Jim Stamates is one of the great North American based wildlife photographers and we are honored to have him leading trips for us at the Nikonians Academy. Jim's trips this year include photo adventures to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons as well as a tremendous photo opportunity to capture images of wildlife in Alaska.

Alaska in SummerAlaska_170.jpg
Jim's Alaska Whales, Bears, and Ice Fields Wildlife Photography Adventure (July 22-28) will be one of our marquee events in 2012.

Join Jim and Kathy Stamates as they guide our own private boat to find humpback and killer whales, seals and marine mammals. Jim is eager to share his knowledge from 30 years as a professional wildlife photographer and his countless trips to Alaska. He will teach his 3 Keys to Great Photos, and how to get those stunning images of wildlife while using ‘low impact field techniques’.

You will have the opportunity to photograph grizzly bears and eagles while searching for dramatic landscapes, glaciers and everything Alaska has to offer.

Urban settings also provide adventure
Urban_180.jpgFor photographers who are looking for a more urban environment, I encourage you to check out Rick Hulbert's four day Urban Photography workshops in Seattle (April 12 - 15) and Toronto (May 3 - 5).

In this class, you will learn the ins and outs of using both continuous lighting (tungsten) as well as studio strobes (flash) to create stunning results.
