Grand_Teton_bears_250.jpg

The Grand Teton Wildlife and Landscapes photo adventure with Jim Stamates begins later this month (September 30 - October 3).

You will shoot:

Bull moose in a backdrop of fall colors are the bill-of-faire at Grand Teton NP and we spend as much time as it takes to get special images of this magnificent animal. Other wildlife may include, Bison, Elk, Pronghorn, Black and Grizzly Bears, Coyote, Fox, River Otters, Beavers, and Wolves. We will also look for Bald Eagles, Great Gray Owls, Trumpeter Swans, and Osprey. Landscapes will include the Snake River, Autumn Colors with the Grand Tetons, Oxbow Bend, Schwabacher Landing, Moulton Barn, and Jackson and Jenny Lakes.

You will experience:
The Grand Tetons in the fall, being near wild animals, the feeling of wilderness, great camaraderie, exceptional photo opportunities, and lots of fun. No strenuous hiking.

California

EasternSierra_01_284px.jpg

Also leading off next month is the Eastern Sierra & Owens Valley workshop led by Michael A. Mariant (October 3 – 6) . This 4-day session takes you to a jagged and prominent escarpment rising over 10,000 feet above the Owens Valley, one of the hidden photographer's gems in California

Many prominent landscape photographers, including the late Galen Rowell, have called Bishop, California and the Eastern Sierra "home" and their base for their photographic expeditions into the stunning surroundings

No other region in the country offers the dramatic granite peaks, glacier-carved valleys, dense foliage and roaring mountain streams. And the Fall Season is the time of year prized by all Sierra photographers, as the colors of the Eastern Sierra explode into a visual contrast against the stark gray of the granite, bleached white of the mountain glaciers and the deep blue sky

A rare and special treat, exclusive only to the Eastern Sierra & Owens Valley workshop, is an evening at a Deep Space Satellite Dish Array Complex to photograph star trails and the Milky Way, while surrounded by giant satellite dishes. Each workshop participant gets to pick out their own satellite dish on the pad to use in the foreground of their astrophotography. Past workshop participants remark that this is the highlight of the entire workshop!

Nikonians founders Bo Stahlbrandt (bgs) and J. Ramon Palacios (jrp) and Mike Hagen (Mike_Hagen), Nikonians Academy Director, host the 13th edition of the Annual Nikonians Photo Adventure Trip (ANPAT) in Arizona.

The week-long (October 5-12) ANPAT is the Nikonians field event of year.

Northern Arizona is a photographer's dream location with classic landscapes, painted deserts, sweeping panoramas, and amazing canyons.

Each and every day, our intrepid crew of photographers will explore the high desert of America's Southwest. We put together a detailed daily itinerary that highlights the best the area has to offer and traveling on our own time table gives us the flexibility to stay on location as long as we wish.

The ANPAT is currently sold out, but there is a waiting list.

New Mexico

One of the annual highlights of the year is the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta – (October 8 – 11)

Balloon-300.jpg

Join Winston C. Hall Join in this 4-day workshop for spectacular Hot Air Balloon photography at one of the USA's most famous events.

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is the largest hot air balloon rally in the world with as many as 700 balloons participating.

The balloons take off from Balloon Fiesta Park -- a 78-acre launch site where spectators and participants mix and chat. In addition to the wildly popular mass ascensions, the fiesta offers eerily beautiful balloon glow evening events. As the light fades, these colorful and fragile colossi fill, lit from within by the blasts of flame.

This year, the Nikonians Academy will be in Albuquerque for both the Balloon Fiesta and a combination Nikon camera workshop and field photography activity during the fiesta. This workshop combination will give photographers the chance to learn more about their Nikon camera, photograph in the wonderful light of the southwest and spend a day shooting the colorful balloons.

On October 10, Lester Picker begins the 4-day Acadia NP Photography Adventure.

Some call it the most beautiful National Park in the country, a tiny gem compared to its larger siblings. Whether or not you agree, Maine’s Acadia National Park is most definitely a sparkling jewel for its combination of geology, flora, fauna… and weather.

Each morning you will embark on an adventure taking you to the fog-shrouded rocky coast or to photograph sunrise atop a mountain. You might visit a beaver pond at sunrise to capture these amazing engineers hard at work. You might hike a wooded path to capture sunlight streaking through mature pine forests, or photograph along one of Acadia’s picturesque fresh-water ponds. Each evening we will have an optional image review and critique.

Seattle, Washington

Urban_250.jpg

Rick Hulbert, one of our Nikonians Photo Professors brings his 4-day Urban and Street Photography workshop to Seattle, Washington (October 24-27).

This workshop series is designed to improve your photography regardless of whether you consider picture taking a hobby, or you are a serious enthusiast, or a professional photographer, or earn your living as a member of the global real estate, design, and construction industries.

There are rules for photographing buildings and other man-made structures, and knowing these rules will make you a better photographer. Mastering these rules will allow you to learn how “break” them in a deliberate, meaningful way.

You will learn how a basic understanding of street photography will assist in your architectural and urban photography. You will discover how the fundamental principles of travel photography will enhance your architectural and urban imaging. While the illustrated lectures will give you the fundamental information you need, we will spend a significant portion of the workshop in the field, with hands on photography.
